I think the issue is, Trump was projected to lose the mid terms prior to the war. Suffering a strategic defeat is not going to win him the mid terms either, everyone that's calling him to end the war now would call him a loser after he did.. so he must do what it takes to win.

Chris, One can argue that control of the Senate is also important for Trump because as long as the Republicans have 50 votes, he can fill SCOTUS vacancies. There is a large wing of the Republican Party focused on social issues for whom control of the Supreme Court is the No 1 issue. If Trump loses that lever of power, it increases his political vulnerability in the final two years of his Presidency from an attack from the Right or the Right and Left. Prediction markets suggests the HoR result may be a foregone conclusion but the Senate is still very much “up for grabs”. Of course, in the past, I - like many - have been incorrect trying to predict elections months in advance. As always, your analysis is very very helpful. Best wishes
